Of recent the world celebrated international women’s day. The day was celebrated with the theme ‘ I am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights.  On the days like these challenges and prospects are discussed to champion the cause of women. The year 2020 celebration is 25th in the series highlighted a lot of challenges facing women socially, economically and politically. One area that stakeholders agreed that will make a difference in improving the lives of women, is Agriculture.
In the field of agriculture, women constitute 60 to 80 per cent of the agricultural labour force in developing countries but don’t enjoy the fruit of their labour. According to the federal ministry of agriculture and rural development, women account for 75 per cent of the farming population in Nigeria, but formal and traditional rules hindered their possibilities to benefit more on the sector.

Women involvement in agricultural production, processing and utilization made the sector one of the leading jobs providers in the country and millions are living a good life through it.
Speaking to G4G Mama Keturah Ayuba via phone an octogenarian, who worked in the field for over five decades said women are agriculture without them nothing will be achieved in it. ' we prepare the land, weed it, plant seed, monitor it, cultivate, process it and at last prepare meal to our family members, you see we are everything.’ Mama who held from Michika in Adamawa state added that if the society can allow women the opportunities in agriculture they will live a better life, but the reverse is the case.
Millions of Mama Ketura laboured in the field and get nothing at the end. Marking the international women’s day is a welcome development, but coming with sound agricultural policies to make them more active more beneficiaries of the sector is better.

Mama Ketura said with the little we get even though through using the old method of farming we cater for our needs, 'had it been we have machines and other inputs needed things will have been better for the whole society because we are Mothers and motherhood is all about caring.
Adding to her prayer, Mama said Agriculture is the only sector that will put things better for our youth and called for a political will.
