Nigeria Yet To Impress The World On Agriculture

The world is now worried on coronavirus pandemic, everywhere COVID-19 has dominated airwaves number of infected person or death is what is making headlines in the media
  The world is full of activities, even though there are lockdowns and shutdowns to curtail the spread of the virus the world over. As of the time of filling in this report, there are over 853,200 cases with over 41,887 deaths in more than 150 countries of the world. That will affect the global economy.
Nigeria is one country that is diversifying its economy, with much emphasis on agriculture. With a lot of commitments and policies the country has promoted agricultural activities and hails its achievements.
Of recent World Bank has released a report on global agricultural performances, Nigeria was ranked 7th in Africa, that too many the country has a lot of catch up to make.
The report tagged Enabling the Business of Agriculture (EBA) ranked Nigeria seventh behind Ghana and South Africa. The World Bank said EBA considers all steps taken by various governments to assist farmers in their quest to enhance agriculture and achieve food security. Nigeria emerged with an aggregate score of 49.17 behind South Africa with 68.73 and Kenya with 64.80 scores.
The assessment was based on eight parameters that examined the regulation and administrative processes of about 101 countries. Which include the supply of seeds, registration of fertiliser, water security, registration of machinery, livestock sustenance, food trading, and protection of plant health and level of access to finance
.
The bank said Nigeria score big in two out of eight indicators: in food trading and livestock sustenance, between 2016 and 2018
Moreover the record made by the country in livestock manufacturing and agricultural trade is an indication that the diversification policy through agriculture is paying. What is left now is to learn how to bridge the gap in with the other remaining indicators, looking at the huge market and potentials bound in the country.

South Africa leads followed by Kenya then Morocco, Zambia, Mozambique, Ghana and Nigeria
